Hello [Recipient First Name],
What is the Christian and Classical approach to using technology in education? Does it matter if we switch from penmanship and old-smelling books to shiny ipads and ebooks?
Some might argue that we humans are always creating new innovations, and that the invention of the iphone is no different than the invention of the printing press.
Is this true? Are the technologies that have transformed the world in the last 25 years simply a neutral technology, and something Christians should accept without much thought?
In a three-part series, I suggest that there is a major difference between the technological advance of the printing press and that of personal computers and smart phones—and that we should give careful thought to how we use these new technologies in our children's educations.
We're not all going to come to the same conclusions about when and how to integrate these tools into our children's lives, but the important thing is that we not just accept what the world tells us blindly. Let's consider the information available to us, figure out what the biblical principles are, and be intentional about making the best decisions for our kids.
I hope your summer is going well—whether you're gearing up for the new year, still working on the old, or never really have stops anyway—I pray that you will rest in our dear Lord and Savior. May He bless your precious homeschool, give you abundant wisdom, and help your precious ones to fear God and love Him always.
Grace & peace to you,
Robyn van Eck
