Hello [Recipient First Name],
Happy Autumn! It's amazing how when we diligently homeschool, and keep after it day after day, it soon turns into month after month... and year after year... Autumn of 2024 has caught me by surprise, but I'm thankful it's here!
I pray this newsletter finds you enjoying God's blessings, and using your time joyfully for the glory of God, as Paul exhorts us—let us redeem the time, in these evil days. (If you click through to the verse, be sure and read the notes from the Geneva Bible commentators!)
On the other hand, if you're dealing with difficult situations, as my husband and I have a couple of times recently, I'll pass along a hymn that really encouraged us, both times, in the very worst of it. It's an old one from the 1600s in Germany—"Whate'er My God Ordains Is Right." Perhaps the words might encourage you in a tough time, as it has us. Here's a recording of a congregation singing it with the beautiful old melody I love, but Keith Getty got together with a friend and wrote some new music you can find all over youtube, too, if you like that better.
My heart and mind have been brimming with Christian and Classical homeschooling insights, and much of the best stuff has gone into our newest resources! Lord willing, I'll also have a new article to share with you in the next newsletter, but for this issue, we'll just have a quick update on happenings around here.
Printing Update
We have two new titles at the printer right now! The Logic of Love: Understanding 1 guide went to the printer in June, along with the new Review & Discussion Questions for Isaac Watts’ Improvement of the Mind. There have been several delays at the printer, but that beautiful layflat binding is worth all the trouble! Oh, and did I mention the revolutionary approach to upper school education you'll find in these resources, with the most thoroughly Christian worldview approach you will find anywhere? (But you wouldn't expect anything else from us, would you?) I am longing to get these beautiful new books into my happy hands—and delivered to all of our preorder customers; I am so thankful to know that the wait is almost over!
But there's something else we're waiting for from the printer, which I am super excited to announce. We've put together a hardcover edition of the Grammar of Grace core curriculum! This edition will still be coil-bound, so it will be perfect for daily use in homeschool, but it will have an actual hardback cover, with a heavier coil, and all of the pages will be on 80-lb. paper which the printers special-ordered just for us! I've been using a sample of it for a few weeks now, and I love it!!
The hardcover Grammar of Grace will eventually replace the Sturdy edition, but for now we'll have all 3 options available—regular, sturdy, and hardcover.
Our printer is telling us that all of these wonderful things should be completed and arrive in the next few weeks.
Online Homeschool Summit
You know that we love the Generations ministry, and their twice-yearly online Homeschool Summits! This year's fall Summit will have the theme: The God-Centered Homeschool, and you know that we really love that emphasis!! We'll hear interviews with George Grant, Ken Ham, Paul Washer, Kevin Swanson, Rosaria Butterfield, and Tedd Tripp—reminding us that focusing on our Lord and Savior is more important than anything else we're feeling pressured to do in our homeschools. If you don't have time for everything, I would make sure to catch any history lecture George Grant gives. Lord willing, this will be a great shot in the arm for all of us, coming up in a few weeks. You can sign up for free here!
Baby Update
And on the homefront, we expect to meet our new baby girl any time now!! I'm 38 weeks along, so if Grammar of Grace suddenly stops replying to emails, you can guess we might be busy with that exciting development. We are very much looking forward to seeing what this new little one will look like, and snuggling with this sweet babe; I pray God will be merciful and grant us this precious one safely, and that we'll have happy news to share with you in the next newsletter!
But in the meantime, when we're out of pocket, please bear with us, for a little bit!!
May God richly bless you and your homeschool!
Grace & peace to you,
Robyn van Eck
